Snapchat Launches Flying Selfie Drone
Popular social media app Snapchat has unveiled its limited-edition flying drone camera that fits in the palm of your hand.
The flying camera, called Pixy, is a brand-new device by Snapchat that is designed to take videos and photos during flight, before landing in your palm.
Pixy operates without a controller and doesn’t need any setup. It can float, orbit, and follow wherever you lead with just a simple tap of a button. Taking selfies and videos during flight.
While the device is in the air, it can film videos and at the same time wirelessly transfer the motions and save them into the Snapchat app.
Co-founder and CEO of Snap, Evan Spiegel, said the flying camera drone is a new way to use the camera for self-expression and communication.
“We are excited to present this new drone camera to our users that allow us to take pictures and videos during flight. With a simple tap of a button, Pixy goes in the air and takes you on a new journey,” Mr. Spiegel said.
“We created Snapchat to let the users experience the new way to use the camera, from Lenses to Spectacles, there are many to choose from. Now, we have come up with a new flying drone camera, Pixy, that flies in four present flight paths, and can float and orbit with a tap of a button and come back to the palm of your hand.”
Price
The drone is currently available in the United States and France, where it is on sale for $229.99 ($A325).
The bundle pack with a charger and extra battery costs $US250 ($A350).
The battery costs $20 and a charger costs $50. Both are sold separately and have to pay an additional amount along with the drone. In the guide, it’s not mentioned how long the battery will last. But it says it captures the content over five to eight flights.
Additional Features
Pixy weighs almost 101 grams and can store up to 1000 photos or up to 100 videos. The device storage is 16 GB, which is perfect for a selfie lover to take thousands of selfies.

The camera can shoot video at 2.7K, but the videos don’t capture sound. However, users can use Snapchat editing tools, Lenses, and Sounds to include music, voice-over, and other sound effects.
